The “10 under rule”

This Jeep was going 10 miles under the limit everywhere it went.  He was even going under the speed limit around the corners!

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.

Have we established this isn’t a very terrified new driver or driver-in-training?

    Billy…

It’s America Can’t Drive dot com! Quoting Wisconsin laws, really?

Bicycle Bill, (if that really is your name)

It is understood that the speed “limit” certainly is the “maximum safe speed” for that zone, but you know as well as I do that it is also understood that those signs also mean “drive this fast”. I don’t think this poster was expecting the driver to go OVER the speed limit.. Just GO the speed limit. I don’t think that is too much to ask.

Bill… Are you one of those slow left lane drivers?

First off, why do I need to leave a name to respond when the OP doesn’t need to leave one to post?

You know, the sign reads “speed limit”. That means “maximum”. The only places in Wisconsin where there is a ‘minimum’ speed is on Interstate highways and certain other multi-lane, controlled-access roads. In fact, here are the Wisconsin laws pertaining to minimum speed:
    I. No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed so slow as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic. §346.59(1)
(and this is a judgment call by the enforcing officer)
II. A person, driving at less than the normal speed of traffic, shall drive in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. §346.05(3)
    (single-lane road; not applicable here)

The “45 mph” on the curve sign means that 45 mph is the recommended speed for safely negotiating the curve….or in other words, don’t try this one at 60 mph.

The third one — the yellow diamond with the white “45 mph” sign mounted on it means that there is a 45 mph speed zone ahead; prepare to slow down from whatever supersonic speed you were doing previously.

Secondly, since these pictures were taken in Wisconsin (most likely near Manawa WI, in Waupaca County), I’m guessing that the OP is an Illinois driver — they always feel they need to be doing at least 10 mph over whatever the posted limit is.

Bottom line: What’s your hurry? Where’s the effin’ fire? Pass him when you get a chance to do so safely, and shut up already.
